About

Jonathan BuckleyHello. My name is Jonathan Buckley and this blog brings together a mix of personal and professional interests in one place. One of the reasons for having this online presence is to give you an idea of who I am and what I can do. I’m a business communicator specialising in content creation and strategic communications.

This website is self-constructed and uses my own original photography; more ‘home cooking’ than ‘TV dinner’. There is a simple five course menu to help navigate. I hope the beachcomber in you finds something engaging in the flotsam and jetsam assembled here.

  1. Business: Simple business tools and insights
  2. Words: Assorted prose and poetry
  3. Pictures: Mobile phone … the best camera is the one you have with you
  4. Sounds: Guitar music and songwriting
  5. Cool Swimming: Introduction to a booklet on cold water swimming

In my professional role, I blend journalism, PR, marketing, and employee communications to create engaging content within a framework of strategic communications and thought-leadership. Typical outputs include: websites, social media, white papers, byline articles, case studies, tender documents and infographics. I have a number of trusted associates in design, film, photography and websites, with whom I collaborate.

I started my career as a trade journalist with Metal Bulletin and went on to be the editor of the 40,000 circulation Hawker Siddeley News. I then moved into PR and worked for a number of leading international agencies including Charles Baker and Weber Shandwick. During this period, my corporate clients included IBM, Dow Chemical, 3M, Matthew Arnold & Baldwin, Intel Corporation and the South East of England Development Agency.

I was a co-founder of Circle Communications, specialising in marketing communications for SMEs and over the years have also worked for many smaller businesses and for individuals. For just over three years I was responsible for sales force communications to Cisco’s European and Emerging Markets.

I graduated from Southampton University with a Combined Honours Degree in German and English. I trained as a journalist and have a Member of British Association of Industrial Editors Diploma from Communicators in Business. I speak French and German. For more on my business qualifications, see my profile on LinkedIn.

I like to be outdoors and recently wrote and produced a short guide to cold water swimming based on my experience of swimming year round at Tooting Bec Lido. It’s called Cool Swimming and you can find it in Kindle and paperback on Amazon. The book mixes research and case studies and is a fair example of the content that I can produce. There’s also some examples of promotion using a range of media such as Infographics and Thinglink.
