Margate Lido: Built 1927, closed 1977.
Artist Tracy Emin learnt to swim here. It must have been lovely … A ‘sand lido’ filled with sea water. There were lots of cafes where you could sit out and watch the swimmers and the sea. Apparently it closed because in the 1970s people stopped using it. What a shame for the Lido and for Margate.
